Review: Cry Baby

2:13 PM / Comments (4) / by Epiphora

It sounds wrong to say "my Cry Baby is dead." But it's true. Now, I did not drop my Cry Baby. I didn't say anything mean to it. But... I suppose it may have died from neglect. I tried it once about a month ago by myself, then I put it in my toy case. I wanted to put it in my pussy and go out on the town with my boyfriend, but I was too busy. I was buried under finals at school, and final projects, and after that I was buried under snow and Christmases.

So I finally brought the Cry Baby out again last night. I realized I'd left the 2 AAA batteries in the vibe itself, and I cursed myself for that (what kind of toy tester am I?). I'd taken the battery out of the remote control, though, so it was still good (it's a 12 volt, by the way). But it slowly became clear to me that the bullet was dead. My rechargeable AAAs, that worked in other toys, did not work in the Cry Baby bullet. All I can do now is turn on the remote control and look at the cute hearts that signify vibration settings. Boo.

But I did try the Cry Baby once upon a time, so I will tell you what I know. The Cry Baby is a plastic remote-controlled bullet vibrator made by a French company named Love to Love, and accordingly, there is a plethora of French all over the packaging. Inside the magnetized flap, there is a list of all ten vibration settings -- with corresponding French names, from the first setting ("un peu") to the last ("encore!"). The back of the package warns "watch out! Cry Baby can greatly increase your intimacy as a couple."

Sadly, I was never able to find out if my boyfriend's and my intimacy could increase. I played with the Cry Baby during one of my insane solo sessions. The pink bullet felt big at first, as I pushed it into my pussy, but then it found a spot to nestle into and it was not going to budge. I turned the remote control on (yes, it has a power button!) and began cycling through the vibration settings with the adorable heart-shaped plus and minus button. The cool thing about this remote is that it actually gives the user information about each vibration setting. Once you figure out how to decipher the stacked up hearts that appear on the screen (I suggest playing with the toy when it's not in a pussy), it's quite fun.

First of all, make no mistake: this thing is not quiet. It would not go unnoticed at your company picnic or poetry reading. However, although I felt the vibrations and the patterns at first, once I added clit stimulation to the mix, my pussy no longer registered the internal vibrations. In fact, many times I forgot that the Cry Baby was inside me (and vibrating) at all. As I was just sitting on my bed, I didn't test the range of the remote control. When it was time to pull the Cry Baby out, its plastic-coated cord was long and sturdy enough to get the job done.

I believe that wearing the Cry Baby out to a bar or other loud place would be great fun, as its vibrations are most prominent when not coupled with another toy. The Cry Baby's remote control gives enough information about the vibration settings to titillate its user, which is a nice touch for a remote-controlled vibe. However, I cannot fully endorse the Cry Baby. It did die on me for no apparent reason, after all. And right when I was about to increase me boyfriend's and my intimacy!

Review: Phallix Cobalt Twister

4:50 AM / Comments (4) / by Epiphora

I know, I know, I know. I'm reviewing another glass dildo. What can I say? I just keep finding interesting shapes and textures that I want to try. Phallix's Cobalt Twister offers a slight twist -- ha, ha -- on the swirled shapes I have tried in the past. On this one, the swirls have more space between them, giving the dildo a corkscrew-like appearance.

Also inside the plastic package from Phallix was a red satin drawstring pouch; yep, the same thin and lacy kind of pouch that comes with nearly every Phallix dildo these days. Fortunately for me, I didn't already have a red one. Unfortunately for me, there is something seriously wrong with the drawstring on this one... it appears to have frayed and come apart, but then was tied back together. This doesn't impair the function of the drawstring, but it definitely doesn't look very attractive. Oh well.

The dildo itself is simple. No swirled colors here, just dark dark blue glass. The dildo looks black under most lighting, but is actually a deep blue (hence "Cobalt"). It's not as visually stunning as clear glass, but it makes for a nice change of pace in my collection.

The sensation of using this dildo is quite upfront. Spinning it doesn't do much in the way of sensation (unlike dildos with bumps), but thrusting is intense. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's almost too much texture. As in, I probably would not enjoy using this while on my period or while in a bad mood. And I would not use it for an extended period of time, as it can become grating. But I love that it feels very ribbed, and I'm glad it doesn't have a head, as I think that would detract from the textured experience. Also, I am always appreciative of a bulbous end for grasping.

As always with glass, it retains heat well, feels very sturdy, and makes me feel like royalty when I use it. And I had no trouble cleaning it; the swirls are far enough apart that nothing gets stuck between them.

So while I won't be using the Cobalt Twister every day, it is perfect for when I'm craving serious texture. A big thanks to Tabu Toys for helping me round out my collection of swirled glass dildos!

Babeland Swag Contest Winners!

6:09 PM / Comments (6) / by Epiphora

I didn't get very many entries for my first swag contest, but two of them made me giggle the most. I asked participants to digitally edit a sex toy into a curious situation. Here are the two winners...

From Syntax, who will be winning the Rabbit Habit!

From Roland Hulme, who will be winning the Pink Kink Kit!

Thank you to everyone who participated. I just might have to revive this same contest idea at a later date, because there are so many untapped curious situations in the world that sex toys could be placed into...

The spirit of sex bloggers

10:40 PM / Comments (5) / by Epiphora

It's been snowing like mad out here, and my Christmas festivities have been delayed for a few days. Today was going to be just another day... until I checked my inbox and saw the best surprise ever: someone bought me the Fascinator Throe off my gift registry.

I was amazed. I posted my plea just last night, late last night, and hadn't even tweeted about the entry. I figured it wouldn't get much traffic anyway, as a lot of people are busy celebrating the holidays. And, needless to say, I doubted anyone was willing to fork over $85 just for me. But yet again, I am floored by the unwaveringly compassionate and giving spirit of sex bloggers.

I think this is a good time to mention several bloggers I'm especially fond of, for various reasons.

Toy Girl is my miracle worker who bought me the Throe. I don't know her very well, which makes her generosity toward me even more incredible. She's just starting off in the sex blogging world, so I suggest you hop over to her blog and comment on some of her entries. She does have the Njoy Eleven, after all.

Beautiful Dreamer is, quite simply, a total sweetheart. We correspond on a regular basis, and I always enjoy hearing from her. She's the only person who consistently comments on my entries, and has done it since the very beginning. When she finally got her gift registry up and running, I bought her the Ella, and she bought me a couple of things off my list. She is very kind and seems to be immune to bouts of jealousy; I wish I could be more like her.

Backseat Boohoo and I share a deep affinity for Roxy Deville, so we enjoy gushing about her together. I forced her onto Google Talk so we could chat on there. Muahaha.

Sienna and I have a special bond because we conducted a top-secret operation together to preserve our anonymity. That is all I will ever say about it; my lips are sealed.

So thank you to everyone who has so graciously welcomed me to the sex blogging community, anyone who comments on my blog, and anyone who goes crazy enough to buy me anything off my wishlist. You guys are truly wonderful people, and I look forward to the years to come chatting/tweeting with and maybe even meeting you.

It's official; I'm a squirter

11:17 PM / Comments (3) / by Epiphora

Last night, I squirted for the third time in my life. It was ridiculously easy to get there, knowing exactly how fast I have to thrust with the Ella. I soaked the towel and comforter yet again. I yelled out in pleasure yet again. And I felt incredibly accomplished yet again.

There is something very exciting about all of this. I don't want to buy into the ejaculation = power thing, but it really does make me feel powerful to be able to create and expel liquid during orgasm. Okay, there's really no way to say this that doesn't sound cheesy, but it makes me feel in touch with my body. Like my body was hiding a wonderful secret from me, but now I've found it. And now I know it wasn't a fluke, and that I can make myself ejaculate any time I want now. It's very empowering. And addicting.

But... it's also very messy. Remember, I am a poor college student. My boyfriend and I own a grand total of four regular-sized towels, two of which usually hang in the bathroom for drying off after showers, and one of which is my masturbation session towel. Up until now, I've never needed another towel during masturbation, as it was always just for catching stray lube. But now, my come soaks through that towel and leaves a large spot on the comforter.

Now, you might say "just wash the comforter, then!" -- but you have not tried to wash that particular comforter in this apartment complex. We tried once... and the washer overflowed.

You might say "just use multiple towels!" Yes, but I masturbate several times a week, and we don't do laundry nearly that often because it costs us quarters.

So consider this a plea to anyone who has the means... I am in desperate need of a Liberator Fascinator Throe. If anyone is willing to send me one (preferably in black), I promise to squirt on it a multitude of times and write a very thorough review of it! And, most likely, be in debt to you for the rest of my life because I've heard the Throe is awesome at absorption. Consider it!

Review: Elle clitoral dancer

8:17 PM / Comments (1) / by Epiphora

As many of you know, I am practically married to my Xtreme Pack G-spot bullet. Although it is a quite blissful marriage, I often wonder if there is more out there. If there are other toys that could satisfy my clit in other ways. So I requested the Elle clitoral dancer; it's a bullet, takes two AAs, and has an interesting shape. It comes in both pink and purple, so naturally, I chose the lesser of two evils (purple).

The bullet itself is made of velvety rubbercote, with an unfortunate seam where the head connects to the shaft. The wiring is permanent, but there are plastic rings around the wire on both the battery pack and the end of the bullet. One side of the bullet has an indent for the clit, and the other side has an odd pokey-outy fin (I don't even know what to call it!).

Right off the bat, the controls don't compare to the Xtreme Pack. The batteries load into the bottom of the battery pack, which has two squishy buttons -- an on/off button and an arrow button that cycles through the vibration patterns. Above those buttons is a little light, which changes from green to yellow to red, to signify the different levels of vibration. The first three vibration settings are steady vibration; after that, there are seven vibration patterns, and the lights actually blink in rhythm with the patterns, changing colors to match the intensity of the vibrations. This is nice and all, but there's no way to navigate the levels except that one button.

I'll give props to whoever designed the vibration patterns, though. They're pretty cool. The first pattern is medium pulsation; second is short-then-long pulsation, third is short-short-long pulsation, fourth is a rollercoaster pattern that cycles through five vibration levels; and the last three are crazily complicated and difficult to describe. I enjoy the last three the best because they're impossible to memorize, so I never know what's coming next.

I wasn't very impressed by the indented, cup side. Mostly because I didn't find the vibration intensity to be strong enough for me. It definitely cupped my clit nicely, but I wanted more strength from it. So I hesitantly turned it over, drowned my clit in lube, and tried the pokey-outy fin. Pressing it against my clit didn't do anything because the fin is tiny, but then I started swirling it in circles... and it was really good. That abrasive-looking, tiny little thing actually felt good, and the lack of stronger vibrations wasn't as noticeable.

I wish California Exotics had taken this one a bit further. I wish it had a better battery pack, more vibration intensities, and a jack for plugging the bullet into. Nonetheless, it's an interesting toy to play around with.

Review: Lelo Mia

7:14 PM / Comments (2) / by Epiphora

Here is who I am: I got very excited when I received a 2GB jumpdrive as a gift. I anxiously await every new version of Firefox. I install a bazillion extensions and scripts to customize it. I have a dual monitor set-up. Oh, and I'm on the computer 24/7.

So how could I resist Mia? Not only is this vibe adorable as hell (and I'm not a fan of pink, but this is a beautiful dark fuchsia color and I like it quite a bit), it charges via USB. I'd heard rumors that it wasn't mind-bendingly powerful, but it didn't matter; my arsenal simply would not be complete without a USB rechargeable vibrator. The gracious people at Good Vibrations were nice enough to send it to me, even when several other reviewers requested Mia as well.

Mia is made of plastic, with a silver part around the middle and a cap that pops off. The plus and minus buttons, just under the silver on the rounded end, are made of silicone, so they're soft to the touch and don't get too slippery. I was surprised originally, because I always assumed the flat end (with "LELO" on it) was the end you were supposed to use on your clit. Nope, the rounded end is for that. The vibration travels throughout the body of the vibe, so I did try using the flat end, but it's not as powerful.

I counted about seven levels of constant vibration. After that, you can switch into pulsation land and there are three types of pulsating vibration levels there (short interval, intermediate interval, and extended interval). Also, there aren't breaks in the vibration -- just lower levels of vibration -- between the pulses. I prefer this type of pulsation over the stop-and-go of other vibes I've used.

Despite the wonderful options for vibration, I ultimately wanted stronger vibrations. That's not to say that Mia is weak -- definitely not. It's just not strong enough for my lame clit, which requires quite a bit of stimulation. In terms of noise, Mia isn't silent, and the higher vibration levels are even more not silent. It's not loud, just not quiet enough to be used while waiting to deposit your paycheck at the bank.

Oddly, when using it, I noticed that I was swirling Mia around in a circular motion around my clit. Normally I like to just press vibes against my clit (and by "normally" I mean "all the time"). I think I reverted to this method because just pressing it against my clit wasn't quite enough, but moving it in circles added to the sensation and felt more like a finger. It was quite nice, and I would encourage all Mia owners to try it if general pressing doesn't suffice.

Other plus-sides to Mia: it comes with a one-year warranty; it comes with a white satin drawstring pouch; it alerts you when the charge is low. One downside: the cap doesn't lock into place, and there isn't an O-ring or anything inside, so I have to be extra cautious when washing it.

Even if the vibrations weren't powerful enough for me, I'm impressed by the thought that clearly went into making this cute little gadget. I may not use Mia much in my crazily-long masturbation sessions at home, but I will definitely be throwing it in my bag when I go places. While it is possible it could raise some eyebrows because I never have any make-up, tampons, or pink items in my bag in the first place, it's still more discreet than any other vibe I own. Plus, I don't have to pack batteries or worry about it turning on during class or while I buy my groceries; the geniuses at Lelo also made sure to protect all of us from potential embarrassment by allowing Mia to be "locked" by pressing both the plus and minus buttons at the same time. Yesss.

Wallpaper: Santa Eleven

I was hoping to do a whole series of these for the holiday season, but schoolwork won out. Nonetheless, I have finally finished a wallpaper for those of you wishing for the Njoy Eleven. It's a good way to drop a not-so-subtle hint to your significant other(s) or anyone who shares your computer. I hope you (e)njoy it!
